| The Megacities Initiative originates from the awareness of the future
role of cities as the dominant type of settlement for humanity. Cities
will play this role not only as a matter of fact but also as a matter
of necessity, as the only other way of housing the increasing world
population. In an intensive rural occupation pattern this would certainly
lead to an ecological disaster.
For the last 15 years, the Megacities foundation has been on the forefront
of the metropolitan planning debate both in the Netherlands and abroad.
With our illustrious list of speakers and their avant garde view on
the megacities and the role of spatial professionals who influence and
manage them, the foundation has set a benchmark in our profession.
After two congresses and ten Megacities Lectures, The Megacities
foundation has decided to compile and actualise the material of the
past
15 years by publishing a concluding book. Ir. W. Tan (Wendy) and Dr.
Ir. D. Tunas (Sari), are appointed as editors who will compile and actualise
the given lectures into a publication that gives an interesting overview
of the development of the approach of Megacities planning and management
that points the way to a further evolution of our approach on Megacities.
The book will be presented in October 2010.
